Livingston Legacy Programs

The Livingston Alumni Association is planning a series of programs to celebrate and commemorate the history of Livingston College and its impact on the overall Rutgers University and global communities.  These Livingston Legacy Lecture series events will take place on the Livingston Campus and include professors, staff and alumni who were involved with the development of programs at Livingston that expanded to the overall Rutgers community and impacted other walks of life.

The first Livingston Lecture series was held in March 2009 and was an exciting look back at the history of Livingston College.  A program celebrating the impact of the Journalism and Urban Communications program will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Livingston Student Center.  To register or get more information, contact us at info@livingstonalumni.org.

On April 30-May 1, the Department of Africana Studies will be hosting a commemoration at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the department's beginnings at Livingston College.  The weekend of events, "Students, Activism, Africana: An Indaba on the Role of Students in the Hisotry of Africana Studies," celebrates the involvement of students in the formative first years of Africana Studies at Livingston and looks more broadly at how the discipline development at Rutgers and nationally through student participation over the past four decades. (An Indaba is a Zulu word for a gathering in which the community gathers to discuss important issues in a conversation in which all voices are welcomed.) We are excited to help cosponsor this program with the Department of Africana Studies. For more information, please contact Dr. Kim Butler at kbutler@rci.rutgers.edu. We will provide information about registering shortly

We would like to plan Livingston Lecture series on the key roles that the music, philosophy, Women's Studies and Puerto Rican Studies played in our college's history.  Would you like to help us plan one of these programs or have an idea for a Livingston Lecture program?  Please contact us at info@livingstonalumni.org
